Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Super Saturday No:13

Rachel Paletsky and I were invited to the OCRF last Saturday in the Hampton’s and it was a really lovely day out especially as the weather was so beautiful.

After being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1993, Harper’s Bazaar Editor-in-Chief Liz Tilberis, along with close friends Donna Karan and Faith Kates Kogan, president of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF), founded Super Saturday in 1998. The fashion, beauty, and entertainment industries have rallied in support, and this year the event raised $3.4 million.

Bigger than ever with some 1,600 tickets sold, shoppers like the Kardashian sisters, Kelly Rutherford, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Mariska Hargitay trolled for bargains among booths from Chloé, Derek Lam, Giorgio Armani, Elizabeth & James, Oscar de la Renta, Charlotte Ronson, and more. Even über-stylist Rachel Zoe set up shop.

It was a great day out for a worthy cause and we were so glad to be part of it.

In the Doctor’s Office live on WOR 710AM

I have a radio show every Sunday on WOR 710AM between 5pm – 7pm and I invite all my listeners to call into the show with their questions on 212.528.0129. I have been hosting the show ‘in the doctors office‘ for 12 years now and each week we offer advice in the best of both worlds of medical practice: traditional as wells as alternative care.  I strive to treat the whole person, not just symptom’s, thereby getting at the exact cause of each complaint. With input from each caller on the air  I explore prevention as the best treatment and advice with possible approaches to all their Health and Nutrition concerns. I hope that you can join us one Sunday live on air and I invite you all to pick up the phone and call in, as I am always happy to speak to both new and regular listeners. I am hoping to broadcast from our new store wellNEST on 125 Main Street, Sag Harbor from time to time and it would be great if you could drop by the store and join in.

wellNEST Store Sag Harbor opens it’s door

Last weekend saw the opening of our store in Main Street, Sag Harbor and even though it rained a little, all our friends and neighbors dropped by to say hello and wish us well. It was really great for Rachel and I to have so much support for our venture and it meant so much to us.

It was really great to be able to spend time talking to the customers about our PURE ESSENTIALS Brand of vitamins, minerals and nutrients. So many people came into the store and asked me which vitamins they should take because they felt tired or they had stomach problems. So it felt great to be able to talk them through the products we have that can help and get them back on the track to healthy living.

PURE ESSENTIALS Brand

Joanne Artese and our good friend Roxanne Lowit, author of ‘Back Stage Dior’ were our very first customers and they both purchase several Organic Freshly Pressed juices from Organic Avenue, you must come by the store and try these they are full of flavour and of course it goes without saying that they are just wonderfully healthy.

Memorial Weekend in the Hamptons

So the weekend came and went so quickly I wonder where all the time disappeared. I spent most of the sun filled days with getting our new Flagship store WellNEST ready to open. We got this building when it was almost derelict and had to do so much to it, but in no time at all we had builders and decorators running around taking out rotten walls and filling spaces with fresh paint. From the outside I think the building looks really inviting and we are going to be open to the public in less than two weeks now.

WellNEST Store Sag HarborWe took lots of the old pieces and used them all over the Store, for instance the attic door which dates from way back in the 1700 was transformed in to sink unit cupboard doors in our restroom we even used the old beams to make the sink bench.

Something Old & Something New

The Garden was totally over grown when we took this property on, but we laboured to strip away the weeds and found a vine which must be over 20 years old. We are hoping that people will be able to relax underneath it and shade from the sun in the summer, sit and drink the Organic Juices from Organic Avenue we will be selling in the store.

The Garden Full of 20 Year Old Grape Vines

I had to show you this picture of the wall we found behind years of paint and plaster, it is the original wooden wall that was used to build the house and we have decided to leave it on show so everyone can appreciate just how old the house is. Our mission in the Store is to sell Sustainable, healthy living products and we hope that you will stop by and enjoy purchasing our finds as much as we have enjoyed sourcing them together with our own brand Pure Essentials vitamins and minerals.

Original Wall behind years of paint and plaster

So to Sunday night we were invited to long term friends, Haley and Jason Binn for a Memorial Day party which was held at their delightful home in Southampton around the pool.  It was such a beautiful summer’s afternoon and we arrived around 6:30 pm to the photographers snapping the  Hamptonite/Celebrity crowd who were all sipping cocktails and passing hors d’oeuvres celebrating Mariska Hargitay (daughter of Jayne Mansfield)on the cover of the Memorial Day issue and the beginning of our summer.  There were lots of great people including Ramona Singer and LuAnn de Lesseps from the Housewives of New York fame, together with familiar faces in the crowd Melody Weir, Star Jones, Beth Ostrosky (Wife of Howard Stern). We hung out with our lovely hosts Jason and Haley as well as Fred DeVito and Elisabeth Halfpapp the incredible founders of Core Fusion .  Also saw our friend Doug Evans from Organic Avenue and met our neighbor across the street from WellNest, Mika Street, owner of Uptown Pilates who has just opened at 126 Main Street.  It was a wonderful kick-off to our summer out east, enjoy the pictures below.

Sick and Tired of being Sick and Tired ?

Richard N Ash and Bear living a healthy life

I opened the Ash Center on 5th Avenue over 12 years ago because although I was a trained Medical Doctor in the traditional sense, 25 years ago I got sick and was diagnosed with severe joint pain and a form of arthritis called gout. I consulted various experts, all of whom recommended drugs to reduce the inflamation, my body was pumped full of every drug imaginable to get me well, I had joint pains and aches I never knew a body could have. Over time, my pain became more frequent, and I required higher doses of stronger drugs. At one point I was taking the maximum allowable doses of the powerful anti-inflammatory drug prednisone, and I had sortisone injected into my joints. Did all this pill taking work? no it didn’t so I championed a proactive approach to personal health, urging people to rid their bodies of toxins and embrace the power of non-invasive medical techniques and therapies in order to prevent health problems from ever beginning.

At the Ash Center my patients can under go a full overhaul in health and nutritional assessments, we will analyze body fluids, current diets, eating patterns, allergies and natural immune deficiencies that are unique to every single human. In our comfortable center we offer both Western and alternative therapies to help our patients to not only improve the quality of their lives but in many cases help them to treat deadly and debilitating diseases.

I tell my patients to ‘Say goodbye to those shots and pills’ as we can offer services and therapies which include: Allergy Assessment, Neutralization, Natural Hormonal Replacement, Chelation a non-surgical procedure to unclog the arteries, Intravenous Vitamins, Acupuncture and Chiropractic Therapies.

One of the services I am so proud of is the Reconstructive Therapy, which injects various nutritional solutions into the arthritic joints, injured tendons, degenerated discs to alleviate the pain and most importantly forgoing the need for surgery altogether. This technique promotes the body’s own natural healing ability and strengthens the weakened area.

I often ask people “What are you going to do, wait for something to happen to you and then start paying attention to your health?” A classic example of this is when a 17 year old boy with colitis came to me desperate for help because other doctors wanted to remove his colon in order to save his life. What happened next was dramatic. After performing some tests, we discovered that the foods and chemicals in his body were acting like glass in his colon, and vital vitamins and nutrients were unable to absorb into his body. After only two months of vitamin, mineral and nutrient therapy, the gastro-intestinal doctors could find no trace of the colitis.

I love it when a patient comes into the Ash Center and tells me they have been everywhere and seen everyone and I am their last hope, a last ditch for some results – Believe me he or she gets them.
